Случайная находка во время палеонтологических раскопок в Аргентине, в богатой окаменелостями формации Ла-Матильда в Патагонии, перевернула представления ученых об эволюции бесхвостых амфибий – лягушек. Найденный прекрасно сохранившийся головастик, относящийся к виду Notobatrachus degiustoi, датируется серединой юрского периода - 161 миллионов лет назад. Это открытие, опубликованное в журнале Nature, является сенсацией, поскольку предыдущие самые древние находки головастиков относились к раннему меловому периоду (145-100 миллионов лет назад), что значительно позже.
